What we’ve learnt from Samsung’s S10 ‘Unpacked’ event

By February 21, 2019June 15th, 2020No Comments

It comes as no surprise that Samsung does a fantastic job in the hardware department. Their aluminium and glass builds are second to none. The AMOLED displays are the best we’ve seen and the three rear cameras on the S10 and S10+ take this phone to new territories. Now add in the new technology (Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor and in-display Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor) and you have yourself and truly great phone.

First thing to note, is this year we will be getting 3 phones in the range at launch – the standard Galaxy S10, the larger S10+, and the new entry level phone, the Galaxy S10e. These three devices will offer more options for buyers and should entice a few buyers over from other brands. Obviously, if you’re after the best that Samsung has available, you get the S10. Need a larger screen, with a larger battery and two front-facing cameras? Well, it’s the S10+. If money is your concern, look for the cheaper S10e.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 range, has a few new technology enhancements, hardware and software upgrades too.

As you may have guessed (or seen), Samsung opted for an Infinity-O display, which features a ‘hole-punch’ camera notch in the upper corner of the display. Love it or hate it, it looks fairly sleek and smart, making it a good, if not interesting, move by Samsung. The real benefit is to the screen size, which gets more screen real-estate, than before.

The displays are still Samsung’s awesome Super AMOLED panels, however, this year, they get an upgrade – official support for HDR10+, which results in deeper contrasts and colours.

The one area that has seen the most press, rumours, and excitement for, has been the Ultrasonic fingerprint sensors, which is hidden underneath the screen. The concept is not new, but the technology is. The S10 and S10+ will be the first devices to ever use Qualcomm’s ultrasonic sensing technology, which creates a 3D model of your fingerprint, resulting in superior security and speed. If you want a screen protector, which works seamlessly with the S10 and S10+’s Ultrasonic sensor, be sure to check our Eiger Protection, who will be offering fully compatible screen protectors at launch.

A wide spectrum of colours

If you’re getting bored of only having a few phone colours to choose from, you’ll be happy to know that the Samsung Galaxy S10 devices will come in a range of fantastic colours: Prism Black, Prism White, Prism Blue, Flamingo Pink, and Prism Green. The S10+ has two premium finishes: Ceramic Black and Ceramic White, and the S10e gets a bright Canary Yellow colour option.
